Artfully Articulated Art Speak for the Art Competition of Artistic Artists

How can I show the negative effects of revenge of Edmond Dantes’ character by exploring contrast and unity with photography and assemblage?

The Count of Monte Cristo is a story of revenge that seems to satisfy our inner want for justice, but by the end Dantes realizes that the revenge has destroyed him, yet this realization is very easy to miss. The point of the story is to show its destructive power.

Dantes’ revenge consists four parts, the realization of who put him in jail, the creation of the persona of the Count of Monte Cristo (the mask) and the attempt of controlling fate (the red string), taking his revenge, and then being destroyed by it.

The original idea was do pieces of actual events in the book. However, to focus on the actual effects of revenge and how they play out specifically for Dantes, I decided to make pieces about the psychological side of his journey. Some of the beginning pieces to show the more physical take on the story. However, the last piece shows the mental destruction that his revenge has caused and even though he physically escaped from prison, he is still imprisoned in his desire for revenge.
